Rehabilitate and maintain spawning populations of lake sturgeon that are self-sustaining throughout their native range
While Lake Superior agencies have historically stocked lake sturgeon in Lake Superior for rehabilitation purposes, few lake sturgeon were stocked during the reporting period. Only two of 19 historic stocks (Sturgeon and Bad rivers) are achieving adult abundance rehabilitation targets, but several locations are showing increasing abundance of adult lake sturgeon (St. Louis River, Ontonagon River, Goulais Bay). Juvenile recruitment continues to be relatively low for many stocks, although recruitment target values were achieved for 7 of the 19 stocks during the reporting period.
