Project
Resolving uncertainty in capture and lift efficacy to further develop a novel optical sorting process
This is a field test to determine the influence of a turbulent water plume on the attraction to and capture by an Archimedes screw style fish lift for a variety of spring migratory species. The overarching goal of the work is to test the first two components in a larger conceptual model for how fish might be selectively passed or removed at sea lamprey barriers. Experiments are being conducted in the Swan River, Lake Huron during 2024 and 2025 using PIT, and acoustic telemetry to monitor behavior around the plume and lift entrance and using PIT and video to monitor capture.
