3.1.3 Lakewide harvest of bass, pike and panfish (combined) between 0.05 and 0.10 million lbs

The combined recreational harvest of “bass, pike, and panfish” is a good indicator of the overall status of the nearshore fish community (outside of walleye and yellow perch) utilized by anglers. Recreational harvest of these species has been near or in the target range for 30 years, with minor fluctuations (Figure 1).

Figure 1. Lakewide recreational harvest of bass, pike and panfish from Lake Michigan, 1985-2021. The expected harvest range is 0.05 – 0.1 million pounds.

Methodology

Total lakewide extraction by species and source has been compiled by the LMTC since 1985 (see Redman et al. 2022).  Data for this indicator are taken from that compilation.
