Pacific Salmonid

Manage populations of Pacific salmon, rainbow trout, and brown trout that are predominantly self-sustaining but that may be supplemented by stocking that is compatible with restoration and management goals established for indigenous fish species.

Pacific salmon, rainbow trout, and brown trout populations in Lake Superior are largely self-sustaining. Diet composition indicates that the majority of Pacific salmonid diets are comprised of non-indigenous species (rainbow smelt). Stocking levels of non-native salmonids during the reporting period was around 5% of the peak in 1991 of 5.6M fish.
