Maintain self-sustaining stocks of lake whitefish, round whitefish, sturgeon, suckers, and burbot. The expected annual yield of lake whitefish should be 1.8-2.7 million kg (4 to 6 million lb).

While all target species are maintaining self-sustaining stocks in Lake Michigan, many river-specific lake sturgeon populations extirpated during the past century are being rehabilitated through stocking from streamside rearing facilities. Annual lakewide lake whitefish commercial harvest is well below expected yield targets and continues a downward trend.
