Department of Fisheries and Wildlife

ABSTRACT:
This study
led to the development, validation and application of several liquid
chromatography tandem mass spectrometry methods. Three postdoctoral researchers
were trained and participated in the writing of six progress reports and 30
research articles. Many Fisheries and Wildlife graduate students received
training in analytical chemistry thought interactions with the postdoctoral
trainees. Expertise was developed to
determine various types of chemical entities supporting studies of general biology,
endocrinology, evolution and chemical communication in sea lamprey and other
lamprey species. Several bioanalytical methods and protocols have been
developed and validated (and many published) to measure of bile acids,
neuropeptides, neursteroids, neurotransmitters,
thyroids and sex steroids hormones in various tissue and environmental matrices.
Through this project, we also provided
technical support to numerous projects supported by the Great Lakes Fishery
Commission, including projects carried out by federal agencies and academic
research laboratories in the United States, Canada and New Zealand.
